Glühwein Cupcakes

Glühwein Cupcakes (Mulled Wine Cupcakes)

It belongs to Christmas like eggs belong to Easter: Glühwein or mulled wine.

Standing at a Christmas Market, freezing in the cold and warming your hands on a nice cup of this hot beverage! Smelling the Christmas spices and having a cozy time with friends and family. Those are just a few of the associations I have with Glühwein.

Last weekend I was invited to a Glühwein Party and I was asked to bring something sweet. How can I refuse that? 😉 I immediately knew that  I wanted to make some Glühwein Cupcakes. I had never made them before, neither had I any idea whether they would turn out the way I intended them to be. I wanted simple cupcakes, soaked with Glühwein. I decided to make a non-alcoholic version, so they are not too overpowering and they are also suitable for children.

Happily they turned out quite as imagined, all sticky and yummie! It was such a nice evening with friends and the smell of Glühwein in the house really gives this this cosy feeling. Don`t you just love that?

  4. Sieve the flour and the baking powder and add it to the batter
  5. Mix until you get a smooth dough
  6. Prepare your cupcake tin and fill the baking cups up to 2/3 with the batter
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean at 180°C
  8. When still hot, make some holes using the skewer
  9. Add about 2 Tbsp of the Glühwein on top of your cupcakes
They will absorb the fluid slowly, it is best to let them rest for an hour or over night to absorb everything.
Be aware: They will stay quite sticky, so its better to use another cupcake liner to prevent sticky finger 😉
  10. Once the Cupcakes have absorbed all the fluids decorate them with the mascarpone-cream frosting and dust them with some cinnamon
